Locations: one house, many chargers
One charger, one house: the charger reads the grid and solar feed, subtracts its own charging, and everything else is the house. Simple.
Add a second charger to the same house and that breaks. Both chargers receive the same grid and solar readings, so both report the same import, the same solar and the same savings. Add them up and you have counted your house twice.
Locations fix that. A location is one site with one grid connection: your home, your office, a holiday house. You tell the app which chargers are installed where, and it produces one set of house figures per location.
Only have one charger? You don’t need to do anything. A charger that isn’t in a location behaves as its own location, exactly as it always has.
What belongs where#
| Stays with each charger | Belongs to the location |
|---|---|
| Charging sessions | Grid import, export and cost |
| Energy delivered to the car, and its cost | House consumption and savings |
| Firmware, health and alerts | Own energy (solar and home battery) and self-use |
| Timezone and billing day |
A session happens at a charger, so it stays there. Your electricity bill belongs to the building, so it lives on the location.
The grid source#
Every charger at a location receives the same grid and solar feed, so any of them can speak for the house. You pick which one does: that charger is the location’s grid source.
- Until a grid source is set, the location shows no house figures. The app warns you.
- If the grid source goes offline, house figures stop until you pick another one. The app doesn’t switch to another charger silently: your money figures never change source behind your back.
- Moving the grid source charger to another location clears it. Pick a new one.
Set it up#
- Open the app and go to Account → Locations.
- Type a name (e.g. Home) and tap New location.
- Open the location. On the Settings tab, fill in:
- Address: optional, for your own reference.
- Timezone: decides where your days start and end. Tap Use this phone’s timezone if you are on site.
- Billing day: the day your utility bill starts, so monthly figures line up with your bill. Leave
0for calendar months.
- Tap Save.
- On the Chargers tab, tap Add charger, then tap next to every charger installed at this site.
- Tap next to one of them to make it the Grid source. It gets a Grid source badge.
Several sites? Create one location per site and repeat. Each one gets its own timezone and billing day.
To take a charger out of a location, tap next to it. To delete a location, move its chargers out first.
What you get#
Open the Energy tab. With more than one location, the house picker at the top switches between them. Every chart below covers the whole location: all its chargers together, with the house counted once.
Savings answers the money questions:
- Saved: solar and home battery energy you didn’t have to buy, at the price of the moment. Split into Car saved and House saved.
- What you paid the grid for: grid energy at the price of the moment, split by what it served: car, house, home battery.
- Grid cost and Car spent for the chosen period.
Energy answers the kWh questions:
- From grid, To grid, Own energy and Self-use at a glance.
- Where energy came from: own energy vs grid.
- Where energy went: house vs car.
Pick the period with : ranges go from today to a full year. Month steps follow your billing day.
Good to know#
- Moving a charger between locations doesn’t move its history. Past data stays with the location it was recorded under.
- Per-charger screens still show that charger’s own sessions and charging energy. House figures only appear on the location.
